“I glanced out the window at the signs of spring. The sky was almost blue, the trees were almost budding, the sun was almost bright.”
~ Millard Kaufman
Don’t you just love spring? Those glorious months of the year when everything is almost as bright as the summer……but not quite warm enough to make you melt.
And when it comes to my wardrobe, I have to admit that I’m almost ready for this flowery season…but not quite.
And considering that today, March 20th, is the first day of spring, I better get movin’! I’m a few items away from frolicking in the grass with an iced cold lemonade…but I’m not quite there yet. Perhaps I should take my own advice and update my wardrobe, just in time for the weekend.
If, like me, you’re not quite caught up with your spring fashion, check out 4 fashionable pieces that will put a little bounce in your step!
With the conference tournaments in full swing, the Big Dance is just a week away.
It’s here, people. It’s finally here!!
Today, no one, including the selection committee, knows with certainty the schools that will land the top four seeds in the NCAA tournament. This nail-biting information won’t be determined until after conference tournament play is wrapped up on Sunday afternoon. Then later that night, we’ll all huddle around our TVs and wait with bated breath as the brackets are announced.
But some assumptions regarding seeding can safely be made at this point.
But then it starts getting tricky.
I’m gonna do my best to remove my personal Duke-bias from this conversation, but considering who the teams vying for the final two top seeds are, I’m asking a lot of myself.
But as of today, here are the three big contenders — in no particular order — for the remaining two number one seeds in the NCAA tournament: Continue Reading »
“Linsanity has swept the Linternet!”
“Look, it’s Linderella!”
“Just Lin, baby!”
“It’s Mr. Lincredible!”
Those are just a few of the many nicknames given to Jeremy Lin, the latest NBA phenom to spark an international following. He’s like the new “Brangelina” – with ridiculous basketball skills.
Whether you’re a Knicks fan or not, there’s simply no denying that “Linsanity” has officially taken over the world.
So instead of running from it, I say, embrace it. And if you’re gonna embrace it, you may as well become a billboard for all things Jeremy Lin, right? Right.
Check out 5 products that will show your mad love for “Mr. Lincredible!”
Did you know that sunglasses were invented during prehistoric times?
According to the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Inuit peoples used to wear flattened walrus ivory “glasses,” long before Maui Jims and Ray-Bans hit the scene. With the help of these glasses, they looked through through narrow openings to block harmful rays reflected by the sun, as seen in the photo below. Genius!
In fact, both Roman Emperors and 12th century Chinese judges also found sunglasses useful. In Rome, Emperor Nero apparently enjoyed watching gladiator fights with emeralds over his eyes! And in China, judges put on the ultimate “poker face” long before Vegas gambling. They wore sunglasses to hide their facial expressions while questioning witnesses in court.
Atlantic City, New Jersey – Sunglasses for Sale!
It wasn’t until the 1900’s that wearing sunglasses became more popular among the movie stars, and then the masses. In 1929, Sam Foster began selling inexpensive sunglasses on the beaches of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Shortly after, in 1936, Edwin H. Land invented polarized sunglasses, using his patented Polaroid filter.
So now that we’ve got a sense of how sunglasses came to be, it’s time to look at what the modern day shades market has to offer. It’s my belief that to get a good pair of sunglasses, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg.
Let’s take a look at 3 pair of sunglasses that won’t break the bank!
Ever since the “cell phone” moved into the neighborhood, it seems like watches aren’t getting as much love as they used to in the good old days.
Instead of wearing a watch to tell time, we instinctually grab our cell phones, leaving our once beloved timepieces in the dust. How do you think this makes them feel? Not good my friends, not good.
Well, I’m here to bring back the love for the once coveted “watch.” And I’m adding a twist to reignite your watch wearing ways.
Feast your eyes on these 3 wacky watches under $150!

Question: Who’s the little penguin’s favorite aunt?
Answer: Aunt Arctica
Ha! Who doesn’t love a good penguin joke? Okay, well, probably a lotta folks. But who doesn’t love a penguin? Unless you’re a fish or squid swimmin’ around the Southern Hemisphere, I can’t think of one good reason why you wouldn’t love penguins.
They waddle when they walk. Some have mohawks. They’re permanently adorned with the two most flattering and never tiresome colors found in one’s wardrobe: black and white. And the tiniest of the penguin species stands, on average, just 13 inches tall and weighs but 2.2 pounds. And the name of this little nugget: the Fairy Penguin.
Come on now, how cute is that?!
Last Friday was National Penguin Awareness Day and it got me to thinkin’. The penguins of the world definitely deserve some much needed love and attention. Look above for just a handful of reasons why. And no, you don’t have to be a Pittsburgh Penguins fan in order to take part in celebrating these non-flying, yet fantastically fast, little swimmers. (They can swim at speeds averaging 25 miles per hour! Did you know that?!)
Thanks to Friday’s “awareness” holiday, I took some time to research these little waddlers, as well as learn about their tragic plight if drastic changes aren’t soon implemented. I learned, currently, 13 of the 18 species of penguins are considered threatened or endangered, with some of these gentle animals on the verge of extinction. And that just breaks my heart.
So, in the spirit of celebrating — albeit a couple of days late — National Penguin Awareness Day, why not take some time to educate yourself about these lovable animals and learn how you can help them?
And here’s a list of 5 penguin-inspired products to help get you in that Chilly Willy mindset. Enjoy! Continue Reading »
