It’s Halloween at Nextag Headquarters!

Nextaggers get in the Halloween spirit here at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA. From Darth Vader, to Smurfs, to Reno 911 officers, you never know what you’re gonna get!

The Best Halloween Costumes Money Can Buy

Love Halloween so much that you’ve given yourself a huge costume budget? Nextag is all about helping you compare prices and save cash, but we’ve also got great values for shoppers looking to splurge. So break out your wallet, because we’re shopping for Halloween costumes with the price filter set high to low to check out the best money can buy!

5. Darth Vader!

You might say that at $835.49 it better be, but the Star Wars Darth Vader Collector’s Supreme Edition Adult Costume is impressive, most impressive. Need to hear more before you buy? I find your lack of faith disturbing! (Not really, I respect that you’re a careful shopper. As you’ve guessed I’ve looked up some Vader quotes).

What separates the Collector’s Supreme Edition from more affordable versions? The pieces are made from the original Lucas Studios patterns, the plastic bits cast from the original molds used for the films. That means authenticity; long ago and far away (California in the 70’s) Vader himself would have worn this. The costume is perfect in every detail; it even comes with a Breathing Device for that iconic wheeze.

Plus there’s nothing like a run in with the real Vader to impress your younglings. Kids are all about what’s cool, and nothing equals “cool dad” like a cape and a scary voice. They’ll never tire of your constant “Luke, I am your father!” (This works better if you’ve had the foresight to name your son Luke. It might be best not to tell your expecting wife the whole plan here). Besides, the costume’s price is worth it for the working light saber alone! (Special effects not included).

Reaching for your credit card right now? You are unwise to lower your defenses!

Viva Las Vegas with Nextag

You wouldn’t know it by looking at me, but I absolutely love Las Vegas. It’s like Disneyland, but for adults. Exquisite hotels, luxurious spas, buzzing casinos, and delicious restaurants are among the reasons why Las Vegas is the ultimate getaway. Whether you’re looking to embrace your inner 20-something at one of the amazing clubs or pamper yourself silly with massages and spa treatments, Vegas has you covered.

You don’t need to be a gambler, either, to enjoy the wonders of Vegas! I’m what you’d call a cheap gambler. Nothing more than quarter video poker and $1 BlackJack for me. People-watching is also fun, especially at the more hip casinos like the Palms.

And then there’s the food. I’ve had some of the best meals in Vegas. In particular, the Palm’s seafood buffet is absolutely amazing. See, I love King crab legs. But I’m not fond of shelling them myself…too much work! That’s why I like the Bellagio, since they crack the crab legs for you. Sure, they have other delicious stuff there, too, but it’s just to fool you into eating less protein. Then, once your food coma sinks in, get hypnotized by the dancing water fountain while watching passersby.

I’m severely overdue for a Vegas Vacation, and this deal is almost too good to pass up! I haven’t been there since 2008, and that’s WAY too long for me. At first, I couldn’t believe it, since the Palms is one of the most famous hotels in Vegas. And for $55 a night, that’s beyond incredible. Plus, unlike some $55 hotels, the Palms is a 4-star hotel… even top-notch Hollywood celebs come to chillax at the Palms. In fact, I’m pretty sure it was featured on one of those MTV shows. As a lifelong cheapskate, typically $55 gets me into a Motel 6, so I’m beyond thrilled I can vacation like a king at the Palms. Take it from me, fellow readers, this is a deal worth splurging on!

3 Pairs of Kicks that’ll Give You “Moves Like Jagger”

I don’t know about you, but any time the song “Moves like Jagger” comes on, I can’t stop dancing. I admit it – I dance in my car to this jam. I dance in my apartment to this jam. And I have yet to subject my co-workers to my Moves Like Jagger obsession, but it’s still early in the day.

This up-tempo hit, written and performed by Adam Levine of Maroon 5, featuring Christina Aguilera, was released for digital download this past summer, on June 21st.  It debuted at number 8 on the Billboard Top 100 – no small feat within today’s ultra-competitive music industry.

Now I recognize that my dancing skills may need a little work. Fair enough. But that doesn’t mean I can’t come close to actually having “Moves like Jagger,” right? In my quest to truly transform into someone who can dance like this Rolling Stones legend, I know one thing for sure: if you don’t have the right kicks, your feet can’t work the right kind of magic.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at 3 pairs of kicks that will bring you one step closer to having “Moves like Jagger.”

Celebrate World Pasta Day with this Carb-Loving Kitchen Tool

Attention all carb-lovers! This is your day to rejoice and be glad. Today – Tuesday, October 25th – is officially known as “World Pasta Day.” It’s time to tell your dietary guilt “Be gone!” as you take 24 hours to appreciate just how awesome pasta really is.

First celebrated in 1995 in Rome, the goal of this holiday is to celebrate and share the nutritional and culinary advantages of pasta. In a world where carbohydrates have been vilified as the enemy, pasta deserves some love and gratitude.

Every day, new diets kick pasta to the curb, warning people that carbohydrates are the enemy. Well, the New England Journal of Medicine disagrees. Studies show that “there are no significant differences in weight loss over the long term between low-carbohydrate diets and those considered ‘high’ carbohydrate when dieters achieved similar calorie reductions.”

And let’s add some kudos from the National Pasta Association (who knew there is an association dedicated to pasta? I love it!):

- Carbohydrates like pasta provide glucose, the crucial fuel for your brain and muscles

- Unlike simple sugars that offer a quick, yet fleeting boost of energy, pasta helps sustain energy

- And for women that want to have kids – enriched pasta is fortified with folic acid, which is essential for women of child-bearing age

If that’s all the convincing you need, let’s take a look at one pasta maker in particular:

Apple’s iPhone 4S Faces Stiff Competition from Google

Earlier this week Google and Samsung announced the latest, Android smartphone that gives Apple’s iPhone 4S a run for its money. Despite the fact that Apple sold four million iPhone 4S handsets the first weekend, the phone leaves a lot to be desired. Primarily most of the folks upgrading were those who had an iPhone 3G or 3GS, since they are carrier-eligible for an upgrade. It wouldn’t make sense for an iPhone 4 user to upgrade, given their contracts don’t end for another 6-12 months.

Apple Quarterly Earnings Disappoint Investors

Apple’s decision to move their annual iPhone event to October – nearly four months later than anticipated – clearly impacted their quarterly earnings. Previously, Cupertino was infamous for June device refreshes after their Worldwide Developer Conference.  Apple reassured investors that they will make up for the dismal figures with new iPhone sales. In a way, Apple’s decision to release a halfway upgrade to the iPhone 4 is genius, given most users can only upgrade once every two years. But two years in “tech time” seems forever. Best Deals on Halloween Candy

Full-Size Candy Bars, Healthy Halloween Candy, Retro Halloween Candy, Classic Halloween Candy

The days are getting shorter, the leaves are piling up outside and the San Francisco 49ers still have a good record… Halloween must be quickly approaching! October officially marks the end of summer, even if it is still 85 degrees without a cloud in sight!

Despite my best attempts to pretend it is still summer, retail stores are showcasing their fall and Halloween displays like crazy. The orange-and-black colors is are a little irritating now; they serve as a subtle reminder that the 2010 World Series Champions didn’t make the post season this year.

But despite the Giants early exit this season, I’m still all for delicious Halloween candy. Just don’t let the retail megastores dupe you into buying overpriced candy just because it’s Halloween. If you act now, you can find colossal savings on Halloween candy on Nextag. Whether you need to cure your candy corn fix or crave a galactic, silky-smooth Milky Way, Nextag has your sweet tooth covered.

Keep It Simple with Sugary Halloween Classics

Nothing says you have to present gourmet chocolates to little trick-or-treaters. Sometimes it’s best to stick with the classics. Nextag offers an assortment of classic Halloween candy, including these favorites:

Full-Size Candy Bars, Healthy Halloween Candy, Retro Halloween Candy, Classic Halloween CandyLaffy Taffy: A dentist’s worst nightmare, Laffy Taffy’s double-edged sword is its chewy and addictive properties. We DARE you to just have ONE piece.

Jolly Ranchers: Savor the moment with Jolly Ranchers, a hard candy that packs a TON of flavor into a little tootsie-roll-size package.

Pixy Stix: Why bother with candy when you can get right to the sugary goodness with Pixy Stix, a tube full of pure, old fashioned sugar.

SweeTARTS: There’s something to be said about the sweet and sour taste of SweeTARTS. Invented in 1963, SweeTARTS originated from Pixy Stix.

Smarties: You don’t need to be smart to enjoy Smarties, a classic, pocket-friendly sweet tart.

Starburst: It won’t count towards your five daily servings of fruit, but Starburst has a fruity flavor that will bring you closer to Mother Nature. Continue Reading »

5 Hilarious Halloween Pet Costumes

I love animals.

You know what else I love: animals in costumes.

I have an 11-year-old pup named Bailey and two kitkats, Kingston and Monroe. As much joy as they bring to my life every day, I think that joy would be multiplied if they would allow me to dress them up as Charlie’s Angels or The Three Stooges.

butterfly dog costume, costume for dog, Halloween, pet costume

I recently saw a picture of a cat dressed as a devil and thought, “My Kingston could totally pull off that look … and own it way more than that cat does.”

But you see, my three ridiculously adorable, yet downright demanding fur balls have crazy strong personalities. They’re not so into the whole, “dressing up in demeaning outfits for the sole purpose of entertaining humans” thing – and understandably so. I once had the brainless idea that Kingston might like to gallivant around town with me in a baby carrier – one of those you carry like a backpack in the front of you, ala The Hangover. Yeah, that didn’t go over well. And I have a scar on my arm to prove it.

Now for those of you lucky enough to have four legged-family members who actually enjoy getting all dolled up and being the center of attention, here are five hilarious costumes for animals Continue Reading »
